BBQ Talk 17

Bob and I have decided that we want to be more charitable in 2016, but we are not sure how much we can claim and whether donating goods as well as money is deductible.

Ans (Toni from Affinitas)

Gifts to registered charity are deductible. For gifts of money it is the monetary value that can be claimed.

For gifts of goods or property (eg something that you have made like an item of furniture) there are various valuation rules – and we recommend you get some advice on how these apply.
